Try googling under "tulip wars". A very hot topic with a lot of books and articles. "Confession from an Ugly Stepsister" is set in the time of the tulip wars.

"The Flower Faerie" by Frank Asch and Vladimir Vagin is about a faerie who lives inside tulips and iris.

One of my favorite flower stories ("The Daisy" by Hans Christian Andersen") might stimulate ideas.
