I'm currently working in a Middle School, but was excessed this year, I hope to move on to high school. I would like to intergrate storytelling into my lessons.

I would like to teach my students that reading and writing are important,
but there's nothing like telling a story to make it come to life.

I want my students to be proficient in reading, writing and oral presentation, and storytelling is perfect way to accomplish that.

I love working with the Junior High level. Here's a podcast from one of my latest junior high days:

What state do you teach in?
Does your state's educational standards allow for oral presentation and/or storytelling in the curriculum?
I hope so, because otherwise it might be hard to shoehorn it in to the classroom.

Anecdotally, I have a colleague who teaches high school mathematics. She uses storytelling to engage her students. It works, especially with low-achieving students. But her higher ups who sit in on her classroom are telling her to stop telling stories in the classroom, because a) it's not part of the math curriculum, and b) it's not bringing up test scores.
