While I was getting some suggestions from other living history re-enactors that tell stories at their events, a debate arose about whether to tell the ancient stories in the original language (in my case Old Irish or Welsh).

Of course the downside to this is how to keep the audience's attention while talking in a language they don't understand. It was then suggested that perhaps, two storytellers might be used. One telling in the original language and the other "interpreting" it into modern English.

Has anyone had any experience with this sort of telling?

You might want to check out bilingual tellers. They tell stories using two languages in the telling. I perfer this apporach to translation, which can become tedious. Sadarri tells in Spainsh and English. Listening to a couple bilingual tellers might generate some ideas.
