Last Friday I performed my thesis story at ETSU. It was about a woman who was both a polygamist and a suffragette. She lost her first great love at sea and never knew that he cared enough to write until nearly forty years after he died.

It was heart breakingly (is that a word) romantic. I had so much fun sharing it. I had more than thirty people in attendance and that was a great crowd considering school wasn't in session.

Let me know some of your storytelling experiences...

Wow Rivka. Sounds like quite a tale. I'd like to hear it. Sounds like the ballads I sing.

This weekend I'll be doing two storytelling workshops for a writers conference. The president of the state writers group checked me out at one of my parks performances last year, and invited me to do a workshop on appalachian stories and one on beginning storytelling at the conference. I said sure.

Tonight I'm thinking about what writers might want to know about storytelling. It's been a tough week to try to develop my thoughts because one of my sons is leaving for Iraq on sunday. still, a promise is a promise. So we'll see how it goes.

My thoughts and prayers are with your son. May he be well and safe.

As for the workshop, some authors just need to hear that its OK to some times create through the tongue instead of the pen. Just hearing a teller is very freeing.

My thoughts and prayers are with your son. Have you had any success with what storytellers would tell a writer? One of the things that I've thought of is how storytellers usually paint a picture in the eye of listener and writers sometimes don't. At least not the expert writers.

I would use the phrase. Show me don't tell me. Find a way to show the picture rather than telling it.

Today I'm working on my writing. Showing how I created and performed a story. I hope it goes well.

Good Luck to you too...
